G Minor Fugue for Jiu Jitsu



What is the common thread between Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Chess, and Bach?
In a chess game there are 400 different positions after each player makes one move apiece. There are 72,084 positions after two moves apiece.... There are more 40-move games on Level-1 than the number of electrons in our universe. There are more game-trees of Chess than the number of galaxies (100+ billion), and more openings, defenses, gambits, etc. than the number of quarks in our universe!   --Chesmayne                                                                                                 
In a twelve tone chromatic scale there are 479, 001, 600 possible combinations, excluding rhythmic variety, according to Theodore Slonimsky, musical mathematician and composer. Leaving the possible melodic varieties of a musical composition in the realm of a chess game.
The Gentle Art takes the beautiful numbers of Chess and Music and rewrites them every time we step on the mat. The combination of the "possible" matches in a jiu jitsu match will never be computed. The dynamics of the human body and its interactions with an opponent are limited only by the time and creativity of the players.

Spider Hands Episode 1!


Our Pee Wee Kids learning mount control, which we call "Spider Hands" and "Spider Swim". The fundamental and basic elements of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be taught to kids of all ages. These exercises prepare our Pee Wee Kids (3-6 Yrs of age) as they develop and grow to the next level of training and fitness into our adolescent Kids program (7-14 Yrs of age) by using techniques that keep them interested and involved while learning. From late 2010 to the present, we here at Paragon BJJ Santa Maria along with our friends, have created our own distinct picture of who we are collectively. The separate elements that come together to create our Paragon family are composed of individuals from all walks of life.  Cohesiveness and unity are formed with a spirit of competitiveness and discipline towards a healthy lifestyle through body and mind. These ideas that are promoted and exemplified through action and deed have been passed along to us as the Paragon way by Ricardo "Franjinha" Miller, the founder of Paragon Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Along with Lance Glynn, John Letters, and the rest of the Instructors and teammates here at Paragon BJJ Santa Maria, we strive to uphold the mold that Franjinha has created and pass the torch to the next generation of champions. This mosaic is our Paragon family.

Paragon BJJ and Santa Barbara County FoodBank

Instructors from Paragon Brazilian Jiu Jitsu of Santa Maria will be volunteering with the local chapter of the FoodBank of Santa Barbara County this friday at Evans Park in Santa Maria. The effort will be part of the Healthy School Pantry program which educates the community about nutrition and health.

Paragon BJJ's involvement is part of a conscientious effort to get involved in the local community and to serve a need that exist in our area. The mission of the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County is to provide nourishment to those in need by acquiring and distributing safe nutritious foods via local agencies and providing education to solve hunger and nutrition problems in Santa Barbara County. A big thanks goes out to Darlene Chavez of the FoodBank of Santa Barabara County for her coordination and efforts.
